چکیده
Abstract Caloric cooling is an attractive family of technologies owing to their environmental friendliness and potential for higher efficiency than present refrigeration systems. Cooling devices based on the electrocaloric (EC) effect specifically have added benefit being easily miniaturized, enabling applications in electronic thermal management, wearables localized cooling. A challenge prior compact EC has been need a separate actuation mechanism cyclically contact material with hot cold interfaces. Here, we propose self-actuated polymer heat pump, exploiting recent discoveries giant electromechanical responses under low electric fields P(VDF-TrFE-CFE-FA) (VDF: vinylidene fluoride, TrFE: trifluoroethylene, CFE: chlorofluoroethylene, FA: fluorinated alkynes) relaxor tetrapolymers. We show that transverse electroactuation tetrapolymer films can be tailored over broad range, from strong weak actuation, without affecting high response. Using this principle, unimorph actuator was constructed two layers large differences electroactuation. This device autonomously achieves displacement between heating cycles films, which could used switch concept thus enable highly efficient pumps.

Electrocaloric Effect (ECE) in Ferroelectric Polymer Films
The electrocaloric effect (ECE) is the change in temperature and/or entropy of a dielectric material due to the electric field induced change of dipolar states. Electrocaloric effect in dielectrics is directly related to the polarization changes under electric field.[1-3,6] Hence a large polarization change is highly desirable in order to achieve a large ECE which renders the ferroelectric mate...

Ferroelectric perovskite oxides possess large electrocaloric effect, but only at high temperature, which limits their potential as next generation solid state cooling devices. Here, we demonstrate from phase field simulations that a giant adiabatic temperature change exhibits near room temperature in the strained ferroelectric PbTiO₃ nanotubes, which is several times in magnitude larger than th...

Electrocaloric effect is presently under active investigation owing to both the recent discoveries of giant electrocaloric effects and its potential for solid state cooling applications. We use first-principles-based direct simulations to predict the electrocaloric temperature change in ferroelectric ultrathin nanowires. Our findings suggest that in nanowires with axial polarization direction t...
